I don’t know about you but I loved Iron Man, the movie starring the delicious Robert Downey Jr. and I’m very much looking forward to seeing the sequel, aptly names Iron Man 2, due out May 7th and still starring the delicious Robert Downey Jr. Even better, AC/DC songs make up the soundtrack. Good times!
I just came across this blog on one of our Entercom east coast stations WAAF in Boston and decided to totally steal it from Mistress Carrie, one of their radio personalities. I have never met her but I think I’d like to.
Courtesy of Mistress Carrie in Boston, which she really just stole from the record company press release- regardless, thanks to both of you:
Band to Release AC/DC: Iron Man 2 Album on Monday April 19, 2010
Los Angeles, CA. January 26, 2010 – Through a unique collaboration between Marvel Studios and Columbia Records, AC/DC’s music will be featured in Marvel Studios’ “IRON MAN 2,” the sequel to the 2008 blockbuster film. In addition, Columbia Records will release the album AC/DC: Iron Man 2 on Monday, April 19, 2010. AC/DC: Iron Man 2, features 15 classic AC/DC songs selected from ten of the band’s studio albums, ranging from 1976 to 2008.
The debut video from AC/DC: Iron Man 2 is the AC/DC’s classic album cut “Shoot To Thrill,” which was filmed live last month in Buenos Aires during the band’s highly acclaimed Black Ice World Tour, the second highest grossing world tour of 2009 according to concert industry trade publication Pollstar. The video also incorporates exclusive footage from “IRON MAN 2” and debuts today worldwide. Check www.acdc.com and www.marvel.com for more information. “Shoot To Thrill” was originally recorded for the band’s 50-million selling album Back In Black, one of the best selling albums of all time.
“Jon Favreau’s vision and passion for AC/DC’s music blend seamlessly into this incredible film” said Steve Barnett, co-chairman of Columbia Records. “The music really underscores the high energy and excitement of the film.”
“Music is an integral part of the Tony Stark and Iron Man experience, and we are pleased that Columbia and AC/DC are taking part in the franchise’s phenomenon. Through this relationship, the band is delivering fans supercharged Iron Man branded music through all our combined consumer touch points, from the movie to retail outlets and even virally with the debut of the new video,” said Tim Connors, Chief Operating Officer, Marvel Studios.
Jon Favreau returns to direct “IRON MAN 2,” with Robert Downey Jr. reprising his starring role as the larger-than-life leading character, along with Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, Mickey Rourke and Samuel L. Jackson.
Based on Marvel’s iconic Super Hero, “IRON MAN 2” continues the story of 2008’s box office smash hit “IRON MAN,” which grossed nearly $600 million worldwide, and was the first feature film produced independently by Marvel Studios.

Not sure where to start except to say that the Billy Joel and Elton John Face 2 Face concert last night at the Rose Garden was one of the best shows I have ever seen. I know, I said the same thing about Pearl Jam last year and Tom Petty the year before, but trust me people, these two legends put on an amazing show. But let’s get started and I’ll try and keep it short.
1. They both sounded perfect. Strong voices, hit all the right notes, looked good and sang all the hits.
2. The Rose Garden was the most packed I have ever seen it. All the way up to the top of the 300 level.
3. Our seats were weird, behind the stage, 200 level, which was fine as they were sitting at pianos and faced the center mostly. Am I complaining about the seats? Nope. I am lucky to have the greatest job in the world which allows me to go to shows like this, even if I’m not in the front row. I’m spoiled but not that spoiled.
4. I had the set list from Seattle (see below) so I knew which songs were coming up, when to take a pee break, and when to start recording the songs I wanted for bootleg video. Which brings me to an interesting point: when I get bootleg video, I always pick the songs I love. In this case, I got Tiny Dancer and Levon- two of my favorites. Maybe I should ask the listeners what songs they want me to get bootleg video of? I mean really, how nice of me. Oh, and please keep in mind that I am sacrificing enjoying my favorite songs so I can get this awesome bootleg video for you all to enjoy. How selfless can I be?! (Did I mention how much I love my job and how lucky I know I am?)
I also got some Billy Joel songs even thought we don’t play Billy. Always a Woman to Me almost made me cry it was so good and Still Rock and Roll to Me, which needs a little editing as someone, who shall remain nameless but has blond hair, goes to shows and gets bootleg video, got a little shouty with the granddaddy of all cuss words and that particular bit needs to be edited out before posting.
The best part about this bootleg video is that it’s not all shaky because we were sitting down the whole time so I could prop my arms on my knees and record without moving around. My bootleg video is normally super shaky because I’m standing up with my arms up over my head for 5 minutes trying to hold the damn camera still while not showing my armpit sweat stains. Sexy! Anyways, next show I promise I will ask you guys what songs you want to see. Check out all of our bootleg video on our “Watch” page or just keep scrolling down to the bottom of this rather long entry. It’s really good, if I do say so myself.
5. Have I mentioned how much I love my job? Going to shows like this and seeing the people around me enjoying themselves so much, singing along to every song, is one of the things I love the most. No really, it is. And yes, I do hate most people, but not all the time. And I can appreciate their enthusiasm even more because I remind myself that most of these people see maybe one show per year, not hundreds like I do. I never forget that nor how lucky I am to do what I do. (Sappy, I know, but true. I must be tired.)
6. The show was more than three hours long. Can you imagine singing for three hours? Yes, they took breaks but man! That’s a long show but it didn’t feel like it because it was SO great. I only missed the last few songs, like Bennie and the Jets and Piano Man, but my mother gave me a play by play via text message as I was driving home. Not that I was on my phone while driving. Because I wasn’t.
7. I sat by Concert Dave and one of his gorgeous nieces. I also sat by Big Suke. He works for my sports station as the Primetime afternoon drive sports show co-anchor and he constantly complains about Glynn Shannon beating him in the ratings. Suke used to play pro football, is a conservative Mormon who doesn’t drink ( I know, right? I feel bad for people who don’t drink. When they wake up in the morning, they know that’s the best their gonna feel all day. The horror! Yes, I stole that from George Carlin.) So Billy Joel is Suke’s all time favorite ever. He’s seen him like fifty times and during this show, I’m watching Suke sing along to every song, dance while sitting down (visualize that please) and just rock out in general. This cracks me up as I have sat next to this man at Civil War games, The Rose Bowl and the Super Bowl game and his face never changes. He never shows any emotion at all, no matter how big or game changing the play is. He just keeps a neutral, stoic, bored look on his face, so seeing him be himself and rock out makes me giggle. He is also the best blogger I know and I’m sure he’ll have something up about the show too. Probably not as good as mine but it will be close. Check him out at http://www.1080thefan.com/pages/2901480.php
8. Lastly, I thought alot about Iris recovering from surgery and how much I would have loved to see the show with her. She would have loved it. Miss you, I.
I just saw something on Facebook about a summer Tom Petty tour…could this be true? Or should I not believe everything I read on social media a-great-way-to-kill-time-at-work sites?
Oh- and I couldn’t be more excited about the Elton John Billy Joel concert tomorrow night at the Rose Garden! It will be my first time seeing both of them and I can’t wait! Bring on Tiny Dancer and Piano Man!
I don’t know about you but my favorite thing about A to Z this year has been Stevie Ray Vaughan songs. I just like him a whole bunch. “The Sky Is Crying” is on right now and “Life By The Drop” last week might be my new favorite song. He’s so cool. I remember when he died in that helicopter crash in 1990. I was a sophomore in high school. Eric Clapton mentions it in his autobiograpy too. That’s my whole story. Happy Friday.
I always learn so much during A to Z. First, I thought “Brain Damage/Eclipse” by Pink Floyd was called “Dark Side of the Moon.” I was driving, thinking to myself, why in the hell did we just skip to the D’s right in the middle of the B’s?
Then, I just heard “Rumble in the Jungle” by Jethro Tull in the middle of the B’s. Gosh, who knew that it’s actually “Bungle” in the Jungle? The best part is that I have the entire list on my computer. I keep it open at all times to see what comes next. I don’t like the surprise factor, I save that for drive time.
So, we’re still in the B’s, but we’re near the end. The C’s will start soon and here’s a little tip: the first C song is “Cadillac Ranch” by Bruce Spirngsteen. Yay Bruce! Yay A to Z!
It’s my favorite time of the year! The hell-idays are over, my tax return is less than a month away, and it’s time for our annual A to Z marathon! Two Tom Petty songs in the first 30 minutes? I am in heaven! We’ll be posting the daily list of songs played every day so you can see with your own two eyes every song we play during A to Z. I would put a link right here but I’m too lazy. Yay for January and KGON’s A to Z Classic Rock Marathon!
Side notes: I finished the Nikki Sixx book, “The Heroin Diaries.” Excellent. I recommend! Shot my new gun yesterday up in the wild mountains of Molalla. Lotta kick on that little gun. Ouchy! Had a wonderful long weekend with the fiance. More heaven. And my son visited the dentist last week. Seven, yes SEVEN cavities! Oy vey!
Back to A to Z! Abracadabra by Steve Miller is on!!
So I just started Nikki Sixx’s book, “The Heroin Diaries” and it is amazing. It’s a miracle this guy is still alive. He dies twice. Once he woke up from death in a garbage dumpster in London. So far, the best quote I’ve read is from Rick Neilson from Cheap Trick. He says, “Nikki wasn’t even that good of a bass player but that never stopped Gene Simmons.” Huh-larious. Great read. Very dark, very gritty, very hopeless. And Nikki is still hot today and has great, allbeit very 80’s, hair. I must admit that Shout at the Devil is in my top 10 most definitive albums of my childhood. I had the cassette. My kids don’t even know what a cassette is.
And while this book is certainly not breaking news, the kickoff of the new season of American Idol is tonight at 8pm. I’m so excited! And I don’t know what I’m more embarrassed about: the fact that I think Nikki Sixx is hot, or that I watch American Idol.
